If only the states did what they do in most European countries. While in The Netherlands, I had a utility trailer that I towed behind my European spec Volvo estate wagon. In Europe, the government issues NUMBERS, not actual plates. When your number is issued, you take your registration to the local car parts store and the store makes your license plates. Any trailer that you tow has to have a plate. But that plate number on the trailer is the same as the plate number on the towing vehicle. So I had three plates, two on the Voivo, and one on the trailer, and all carried the number BN-91-GN, I still have the plates hanging in my workshop.
Tennessee does not require plates on utility trailers. But Georgia and Alabama do. Sine I can cross two state lines in a twenty minute drive here, I got the optional permanent plate for both my fiver and my two axle utility trailer.
