garmin fixed that issue completely when they did a wireless camera for the gps units. the transmitter can be mounted on the trailer tongue so there is no obstruction and distance to the reciever is < 10ft for virtually any case. you can buy a 50ft cable to go between the camera and transmitter, long enough for any reasonable rig
I agree, the majority of other wireless ones are junk, but the garmin is top notch.
