Rear wall on coleman seperating from side wall.

The rear wall is separating from the side walls, it looks like the rivets or whatever they used to secure it broke. Anyone fixed this.

  • I haven't had that happen to mine, but I have removed both ends. Granted mine is a bit older but I'll bet it's the same.

I removed the plastic trim from both corners. Not the plastic corner covers on the top. On mine there is a screw track that runs down both sides. Coleman puts a flexible plastic cover over these screws and secured it top and bottom with a screw.

You can just pinch on the center of this cover and pull it out of the track to access the screws underneath.

Then go along the bottom and remove any screws that appear to be holding the cover on.

For the rivets you can easily remove them with a standard power drill. Just use a drill bit that is a little larger than the center hole in the rivet.
Drill slowly in the center until the top of the rivet pops off. They are probably aluminum so the should drill quickly. You don't have to drill very deep, maybe only 1/32 of an inch. Now just tap the remainder of the rivet into the body.

Carefully remove the panel and see what's going on underneath it. When it's time to put it back together you're going to need a pop rivet tool and some pop rivets. You can buy all of these supplies at Home Depot in the nuts and bolts aisle. It's probably about $20 for the rivet tool and $6 for a packet of Rivets. On mine I needed 5/32 rivets.

Good luck with it, it's probably not that difficult to take apart once you get started.
  • Thanks twins89,our Coleman is going on 15 and I just can not justify the cost of a dealer repair. I am handy and will attempt it myself, just checking to see if anyone else has done this themselves.

  • We actually had this happen to our Jayco. We didn't want to fix it ourselves and took it back to the factory service center in Indiana. They removed the corner strips on both sides. Used longer larger screws to bring the two pieces together and put new strip molding, etc on the corners again. They explained the screws should have been longer and the ones used did not go through the framing far enough. No problems now. If you are handy you could do this but we aren't and felt we wanted it done correctly and took it back to the factory.
