Its great that you want to get into camping with your family; our daughter was tenting with us before turning one and we're doing the same with the grand daughter.
I'll join Vermilye in suggesting you take a look at the molded fiberglass models. While interior space may be limited, most are relatively trouble free, durable and retain their value quite well. Fiberglass RVs for sale
We've found that, other than sleeping, we're seldom inside the camper anyway. Note: We do have a quality screen room for cooking, bugs and inclement weather. This website might be useful in determining if an egg could work for you. It has a section on rallies across NA and you may be able to find one near you. We're an incredibly friendly bunch and love showing off our trailers.
