What will you be running from the generator most of the time? If you just need battery charging, reefer in AC mode, a few electronic devices, a 1000 watt gen is plenty. If you need all that and microwave use, a 2000 watt will cover that. If you need to run your air conditioner from the gen frequently, I’d recommend a pair of 2000 watt generators.
Personally, I think it’s an awful lot of extra work to drag around a 3000 watt generator 100% of the time for the less than 5% of the time I would actually need that much wattage. 3K gens are heavy!
Inverter gens are the way to go. Honda, Yamaha, Champion, maybe a few other lesser known brands. You gotta be careful buying the inexpensive ones though. When they break, getting service and parts is going to be tough.
