If you were happy with a fold out type trailer (aka hybrid), you might like a pop-up. Don’t discount them until you take a look at some of the newer (not new) ones.
Both vehicles could tow a small hard-side trailer. The Odyssey would likely be a better platform, except you probably don’t want to be stressing the transmission.
A number of years ago there were some good smaller hard-walled campers being made by the major manufacturers, designed to be towed with minivans/CUVs. You should be able to find them used at reasonable prices. There are still some being made but it’s more of a specialty business.
Some examples are:
Forest River R-pod (still in production)
Heartland Edge (discontinued)
Heartland mpg (discontinued)
If you’re just starting out, start out small. You’ll want something relatively short both in height (under 10 feet) and length (not over 19’ I’m afraid). That will give you a nice low centre of gravity and be comfortable to tow if you don’t have much experience.
Payload capacity of your tow vehicle is not likely to be a problem with two young kids, but you should look for trailers around 2500 lbs dry weight or less.
