Towing any high walled RV is hard work just to pull two sheets of plywood through the air at 60-65mph. Then you need reserve power to accelerate and for hills/overpasses. That's why "it needs to be towed with an 8 cylinder" and they all get 8-10mpg no matter the weight. The compromises in tow vehicle is not what many people are willing to accept, full sized pickup or SUV. That is why popups cost not much less than high walled RVs, and R-pods/Trailmanor cost more than traditional high walled RVs. You can tow with far more vehicles.
Rent something for a week. Popups are under $500/week. See if you want that compromise of packing and sleeping under canvas. Or rent a small TT. See how either tow it and if you like cruising at 3000rpm with downshifts to 5000rpm. Some people don't care, others do.
