Before I bought my half ton, I was towing a large Coleman PU (2,300 lbs +/-) with a Ford Windstar. When I traded in the Windstar, I noticed that the tow hitch, where attached to the underside of the "frame", had stretched and deformed the metal around the bolt holes. This happened despite the fact that the hitch was installed as per specs and I was towing within the manufacturer limits. It seems I dodged a bullet. This indicated to me that, even though the powertrain was sufficient, the unibody of the minivan did not have the proper structural element to take the loading. That is why I would be leary of using any uni-body vehicle to tow a travel trailer.
I'm not sure if both of the tow vehicles mentioned here are unibody construction.
