Hey guys, so I'm looking into purchasing some American Force wheels and new tires. I think I'm correct in saying that is the weak link here are my wheels and tires.
What are your thoughts on 20" wheels that have a 4,000 lb rating (each) and some higher rated tires?
Any issues towing with 20" wheels/tires?
Reality is compared to a dually you are going to be down some on tire carrying capacity and stability. But beefing up the tires and wheels will help mitigate some of the load capacity issue and I think it does address your weakest link. The bulk of your truck has the same components as the dually version.
If it were me I'd get the trailer and see how it does. At worst you'll see first hand that you're swinging at the edge of the truck's ability and you will need to address that at a later date, or at best you'll be pleasantly surprised (the more likely scenario, imo).
I see guys towing full grown triple axle toy haulers with 3/4 ton trucks all the time with no issues. I'm not endorsing that as a great idea, but just pointing out that the rv.net view through your monitor or smartphone isn't always the same as the real world view through your windshield. At the end of the day you get to make the choice.
