Our first RV was a fifth wheel (purchased used). We weren't looking to get rid of it, but we did after attending the GS Rally in Daytona Beach last November. Our TT is new, weigh about half what the fifth wheel did, and is mechanically less complex: One electric slide vs 3 slides (2 hydraulic), manual leveling vs. Bigfoot (great addition but expensive if it breaks), travel trailer is 11'tall vs. 13' 2" on the fifth wheel (less likely to kill myself if I get on the roof), and to replace tires on the TT it's about $100 apiece vs nearly $400 apiece for the fifth wheel. When we traded we gave up all that plus 2 AC units, onboard generator, & 50 amp electric service but we're fine with that. If we traveled as extensively as we had hoped, we would have kept the fifth wheel, but we don't so the TT is a good fit for us. Oh, my towing "stress level" has decreased dramatically since getting the travel trailer. And despite all the claims of how easy it is to back a fifth wheel into a campsite, I never got the hang of it, but I can sure back the TT into some tight campsite with no problem at all.
PS: Now I have a tow vehicle (Ram 3500 diesel)that is more than adequate to tow the TT. But, it's paid for and ain't going anywhere unless it starts to nickel and dime me on maintenance and repairs.
