Of course and many of us understand that.
But a lot of us remember the term 'passing gear', which was in quite common usage back in the old days of 2 speed and 3 speed automatics. It was a phrase that was used to describe the burst of power sensation from the transmission downshifting....when you put the pedal to the metal.
