Removing Satellite Dish and Antenna From Roof

Hey guys , any tips on how to remove this dish from the roof?

Any specific tools that you think will help? Its sealed on there with what looks to be some black sealant which i have not seen on the top of an RV roof yet

I bought some eternabond tape to seal it up , and i have some dycor self leveling sealant , any tips would be helpful , thanks

  • Sounds like you have a rubber, TPO, or EPDM roof, which is a membrane layed over the plywood.

In that case, you’re going to have to be careful cutting through the sealant. You might want to look for a plastic putty knife or scraper. Those might not be so prone to cutting the roof membrane. They can be sharpened with a sander if they get dull or chipped. If you apply a little heat with a hairdryer to the base, the sealant will let go easier.

    What type of roof?

I’ve got a seamless aluminum roof, and when I removed mine I made a big patch out of some 12” wide aluminum flashing, and some Eternabond double-stick tape. The double-stick is of course sticky on both sides. I cleaned the roof good, stuck the patch down, and sealed around the perimeter with some Kool-Seal caulk. That was about 15 years ago, and it’s never leaked.

hey thanks for the reply , im not sure what kind of roof i have honestly but it feels kind of soft. its deff not metal. i have an eagle cap 811

do you recommend any specific tools to remove the sealant and break the seal between the dish and the roof? i was thinking maybe one of those metal tools they use to put spackle on the wall
