Removing tub/adding walk in shower

Looking to buy a new travel trailer for my parents to live in while at our house. They need about 30ft. with bedroom, bunk and walk in shower. We have been looking and are finding most have a tub. Not going to work for them. How hard would it be to remove the tub and replace it with a step in shower? Do you think it can be done at the factory? Thanks

  • As far as removing the tub, and putting in a shower pan, I have remodeled a couple of campers and trailers in my time, it is not hard to do, just need to be careful, and plan your steps well. I recently had to completely gut my bathroom due to a water leak, then fix the leak and install new flooring, plumbing, shower pan, shower surround, toilet, etc. All together it was about a week job, but, that was just a few hours here and there during the week, then all one day on the weekend.

    I've yet to see a bunkhouse trailer that didn't have a tub. Suggest you look at some alternative to a bunkhouse model.

    Timber Ridge 260DBHS to name just one

  • for this use, why "new"? as was said, there probably is "stuff" under that tub.
    bumpy
  • There are a lot of TT floor plans that have the walk in shower instead of a tub. n7bsn named quite a few and those ones that he did name would be on the top of my list because they are all Northwood MFG or owned by Nash (Outdoors RV).

    If you can get around the bunkhouse floor plan then you will have more options. Personally I'm having a hard time figuring out why I wanted a bunkhouse for my kids. I hate the floor plan to death. I much rather have a rear living room floor plan or any floor plan that has two recliners instead of the bunks. Kids are easy to accommodate and they would be just as happy with the dinette or couch to sleep on.
  • Depends on how the trailer was made... doing it in an RV shop, spendy, doing it at home, time consuming.
    Factory order is easier, many actually have that as an option.

    Some that come with showers... Arctic Fox 29L & 30U; Snow River 246RKS, 254LSS, & 266RDS; BlackStone (all 2013/2014 models); WindRiver (all 2013/2014 models); TimberRidge (all 2013/2014 models); CreekSide 26RLS & 31KQBS;

    There are rigs out there with walk-in showers
  • You might be able to find a pan that will work dimension wise, either in an RV style or even a residential unit. Keep in mind that RV shower pans are also raised to accommodate the shower drain/ p-trap. You usually can't drop them any lower, to floor level, without running into drainage problems. The grey tank is very close to the floor, so there always going to be some step-up.
