I just read the link posted by H'dog and it appears to simply be just another anecdotal opinion posted on an internet forum. It does reference the differing testing standards for LT vs ST tires. I would expect them the have differing standards since they are different products intended for differing purposes. Expecting LT and ST tires to have the same minimum testing standards would be kind of like expecting the testing standards for boats and airplanes to be identical. After all, they are both vehicles powered by engines.
It seems to me that if LT tires were preferable in TT applications the tire company engineers, TT engineers, NHTSA and consumer groups would say so. Anecdotal stories by anonymous internet posters just aren't enough to make me declare all the engineering groups, manufacturers and government agencies of being involved in some vast conspiracy to pass off inferior products on an unsuspecting public.
Based on my anecdotal experience with LT tires I should be looking for some ST tires to put on the wife's minivan. ;)
