?replace broken glass in framed crank-out window?

In my case that glass was darkened - I removed all the broken glass and cut out some cardboard as temporary replacement. I went to glass shop but he had to place order with glass mfg to get proper tinting, shaping, tempered glass. Wasn't that expensive but it did take a week or so to get the issue resolved.
