Replace mattress or add topper

I have read several threads on mattress suggestions, but am curious to the size of the person on it and if they got a topper or replaced the mattress.

I am 37yrs old, 6' 235lbs. I crush the 6" rv mattress down to the plywood. I wake up feeling like a dry rotted rubber band. How many have had luck with just adding a mattress topper?

I'm not asking for exact height and weight, but if you would comment if you have similar weight and what worked for you.
  • Thanks for the responses. I understand that people have different preferences on sleeping. I want to make sure I don't purchase a certain type of mattress/topper and still bottom out whey I lay down.
I think I'm going with Gregs "spend the money and cry once".
  • Husband goes 305 and is 5'8" (big boy). We ditched the stock mattress without giving it a chance. Been there, done that. Replaced it with as much of a good quality pillow-top residential mattress as our money could buy. A good night's sleep is not up for negotiation.
  • Am a few inches shorter than you, and a couple pounds lighter, but I tossed a decent topper from Wally World on the bare bones mattress that came with my TT, and it works very well.

Everyone has a different comfort level, so what might work well for one person may be quite uncomfortable for another.
  • I'm 6'2" and 200. We went for a residential mattress plus 2" topper. I sleep better than at home. Just spend the money and cry once.
  • I'm 5'9 and 205 lbs. We put a 4" topper on and it works well for us. Got it at Walmart.
