Yeah, brass should be better than the cheap plastic stuff, right? The issue is not so much with thread size but the casting of the brass. Starting about 15 years ago, I was having problems with sink hardware. I've since found it is about the quality of the brass in the casting process. Anything cast in India or China is treated like glass when I handle it. Not your fault, it is the times.
