I guess I'll add my 2 cent. I agree lots of trucks can pull lots of trailers without any sway control. But seeing how every time I pull my camper I have my wife and two kids with me. Maybe I don't "need" sway control, but it's not like it cost 5 grand. It's a very cheap piece of insurance for me.
I am 34 years old and have NEVER filed an insurance claim of any kind. (knock on wood). Should I call tomorrow and cancel ALL insurance because I haven't needed it yet???
But here is a real world example.
Some friends of ours had a brand new 32 TT. After several long trips for warranty issues, he told them to come get it the next time.
They came and got it in a dually. No WD or SC. Just an insert and a ball. I saw it myself.
He lost the whole thing on I-40 due to sway. Car cut in front of him !! This was an employee of a large dealership who I'm sure had pulled many times, as he did it for a living. Pulling thousands of miles with no SC and no problems.
I bet he thinks he "needs" it now !!
