Forget the kit, just set-up your load properly, maintain the correct air pressure in the tires, and have your brake controller accessible in case of an emergency where you need to apply just the trailer brakes.
I would either run without the friction bar or with a sway-prevention hitch... sway 'reduction' scares me too much. Once there is enough force to overcome the friction bar, you are likely never getting control back again. When I get a slight sway, I adjust my driving and correct (a little gas applied, or a little bit of trailer braking applied)

I've towed my current 30' Jayco first with a 1/2 ton Burb and now with the 3/4, for around 4000 miles with no sway control and NO SWAY. This includes all manner of trucks and semis passing in either direction and a storm with 40mph crosswinds. I'm a firm believer that a properly set up rig should not sway.
If money wasn't an issue, I would go with a sway prevention hitch, but I'm perfectly comfortable towing the way I am.
I'll have to disagree some. Yes when setup correctly there will be no sway. But that is NOT what sway control is for. It is NOT to keep the TT inline in normal driving. Not even when trucks are passing. IF it sways in normal driving. Other problems need to be addressed. In other words. Sway control is NOT to prevent sway. Sway control is only to help control sway AFTER it begins
So you ask, If you normally have no sway. Why put on sway control? Well. Have you ever had to dodge a deer, dog, or child, or a car that turned in front of you., or veered into your lane unexpectedly. Blown a tire, Or well just a hundred things that can go wrong, and cause you to jerk the steering wheel to go around it? That is what sway control is for. To help dampen the movement of the trailer AFTER YOU have caused it to sway by inducing it thru the steering wheel.
I too have O sway. I can run easily down the road at any speed, be passed , and pass trucks. No sway. However. I put sway control on any way. Why? Well, there could be that deer, accident, or stupid driver just around the bend.
You can't always drive out of sway by speeding up. Especially if you are braking hard as you can, and you can't let off the TV brakes, and pull the TT brakes IF you really need to stop now. Or IF you have had to take to the median, or swerve off the road.
THAT is what sway control is for. Don't leave home with out it.
I don't swerve for anything. I'll apply the brakes in a manner I consider reasonable, and if I hit it, I hit it. I got airbags. Sh*t happens. If you're so fearful of every little miniscule possibility, you should just stay home. I never wore a seat belt in town before it became law, only when on the highway. I don't wear a helmet on my motorcycle because it's not required. I believe in not sweating the petty stuff (and you know the rest of that cliche).
When it's my time, it's my time. If someone else happens to be in my way when I go, it was their time too. Que sera, sera and c'est la vie.
So you are saying. A little child runs out in front of you. You will just kill it, and drive on. And you have the nerve to tell ME to stay home. You need to get off the road. You sir are a danger to every person, ON or near the road. IF you can find park on your vehicle. You should use it. It's the big P on your shifter.
I have swerved many times to dodge things. In 40+ years of driving, and I really drive. I've towed your 4000 miles, in 7 days. Lots of stupid people have got in my way. Once even a deer ran beside the truck for a while on the BRP. People have swerved into my lane. They have almost missed the exit, and exited any way forcing the car in front of me into the guard rail, and me to swerve around it. Stuff has fallen off trucks in front of me on the Interstate, and I had to dodge it. Air bags do little good when a huge rock, or plank, comes thru the windshield.
IF you haven't had to dodge anything. You don't drive much. You should learn.
.
You're f'in kidding right? If a kid runs out in front of you, you're not on the highway. You're in a residential area going 25-35mph and swerving isn't going to cause any kind of sway. I've been driving 35 years all over the country and I've never had a kid run out in front of me on a highway. Deer yes, and you hit the brakes, DON'T SWERVE, and maybe hit the deer, maybe miss it. Swerve and you're just asking for trouble. Someone cuts you off and you swerve? What havoc does that cause behind you? Could make things far worse than just hitting the brakes and maybe hitting the idiot.
I don't worry about every little remote possibility. I assess risk/reward/cost and take a middle of the road approach to most things. Feel free to be ultra-conservative if you want. Don't expect me to follow your thinking.
