Rockwood ultralight construction quality?

2008 26 ft TT. Soft floor. Not water damaged, I think the foam core is breaking down under the 1/4 in thick floor.

Hope people chime in as I am looking at the same trailer.

2004 Rockwood 8318SS 31ft ultralight, purchased new.

Soft floor in front of entry door. No water damage, probably foam collapsing (like previous poster).

This trailer uses a frame that consists of 3 pieces of mild steel welded together to form an I beam. The beam bent down just aft of the tires. The beam web buckled. I noticed the paneling on the side of the fridge had bowed and investigated. The fix was a friend and I straightened it out and welded a reinforcement plate onto the beam.

The front window started leaking behind the queen bed. I removed the window and wasn't surprised it was leaking. The window cutout looked like it was done freehand with a jig saw, and in several places the window flange covered the hole by about 1/16". The fix was to realign the window with shims to even out the cutout gaps, and then reseal.

The slide roof leaked from the factory, but it was masked by the slide topper. One day a wind blew rain just right under the topper and the slide leaked into the cabinet below. I removed the topper and it was easily apparent that the Dicor from the factory had a large gap. I resealed with Dicor to fix the problem.

The upper bunk support almost pulled out of the wall because they shot screws into the thin paneling only instead of the reinforced areas in the wall. Fixed it by adding extra screws into the reinforced areas, where the original screws should have been.

Took the cladding off the underside to do a mod and noticed that the black tank was sagging at one end, threatening to fall out. The angled supports it rested on were cut too short, so the plate welded at the end of the angle was short 3/8" from reaching the crossmember it was bolted to. So instead of the screws being in shear, they had started pulling out at an angle, lowering that end of the angle more and more over time. I added shims and bolts with nuts to fix the problem.

Other than these, it hasn't been too bad (ha ha). I do like the floor plan.

Just sold a 2011 Rockwood 2601s. Very nice overall. Zero leaks but also had a spot on the floor near the door and one in the bathroom that was soft. I sold it for a bigger TT, it was soft but I never worried about it.

I have a 2010 2604 that has held up well. Still feels solid and leak free into its 6th year of use.

We ordered our Ultralite new, and it arrived October of 2006, but is titled a 2007.

It lives outdoors in sunny & rainy FL. It did have one minor leak in the front storage compartment. The leak was around the access hatch. I removed the screws, pulled the hatch, and discovered it had very little sealant. I used an entire tube of sealant, and re-installed it, all while on a camping trip. That was a few years ago, zero leaks since.

No flooring issues with ours yet. The I-beam frame is plenty beefy on our model. The entire box of the camper is welded aluminum. It can be seen under the dinette seats, and the bed support from inside the storage compartment.





During a long bumpy trip, we discovered the drawer slide in the kitchen cabinet had come free of the frame.



Turns out a cross brace had pulled free. It was only stapled together. I removed it, put in some screws, and 8 years later, never another issue.

I've had to replace a vent cover, and the waste tank vent cap due to sun rot. The WFCO converter failed, and has been replaced with an Iota 55A charger, and recently replaced the water pump which had developed a small leak.

This all said, I can't say any of these issues had anything to do with it being an Ultralite model. My BIL has had significant issues with his Outback TT. Even my previous 36' Class A Bounder had more issues.

Ours is a keeper. Wouldn't hesitate to buy it again.

I have a 2014 Rockwood Minilite 2502s that I purchased brand new. I too have a soft spot in my floor between my slide out and my dinette. Cabinetry is flimsy and 1 spot in particular seperates regularly even after 2 repairs under warranty. Those are my 2 biggest issues.

2015 Rockwood 2604WS. Shakedown near home in October. No problems. Left for FL in Feb and first night out furnace quit and rear stabilizer motor locked up. Had to remove motor to manually extend jack. These issues fixed by the dealer under warranty when we got back in April. Hope the bugs are out of it now. We like the floor plan and I am happy with fit and finish.

I have a 2008 Flagstaff 27BHSS and found the floor to be increasingly spongy over the past couple of years - in the kitchen area. Looking under the trailer, there's a huge span for the plywood - nearly 3 feet between floor joists. I cut a couple of pressure treated 2 x 4's to span the joists and stiffen the floor up. It's rock solid now and the wife is MUCH happier : )
