Rollup awning

No Dave, Using rubber roof coating would not be a great choice. If you are having sun damage while parked at home, you could cover it with something. I have used those plastic rain gutters that you get from HD, or Menards. On mine, I put one edge in the awning rain gutter on top, and slide the rest right over the awning. It is a great fit, just snug, covers most of awning. They are cheap, I have 2 ten foot lengths.

They have an option now where they add a 6-8" flexible metal extrusion for that first wrap to address this exact issue.

A hail storm went through last summer and shredded our awning. Awning was rolled up, but it took a beating. (also damaged the roof and both AC units.)
All fixed now.
We decided to add the cover to the awning to help protect it. So far it has worked very well.
So we ended up with a new roof, 2 new AC unit, and a new awning. all is well now.
We looked at the plastic and aluminum covers for the awning, and went with the aluminum cover figuring it would hold up better than the plastic.

Thus.... the reason to wash the awning with RV awning cleaner an not something like Spic n Span that cleans so well, it removes the protectant chemicals in the awning. RV awning cleaner will put those protectants back into the awning, thus prolonging it's life and give protection against UV.

Get some RV awning cleaner / conditioner and give the awning a good treatment.

Mine was starting to deteriorate on top in the rolled up position. I put eternabond tape over the area that was starting to deteriorate, along the whole length of the awing when it was rolled up. It's help up for 2 years since i taped it.

Are there any aftermarket extensions one could mount?

I've seen aftermarket half tubes designed just for UV protection of awnings. They come in sections and just snap on. Designed for storage only, not suitable for towing. Google should be able to find them.

I took two lengths of black perforated drainage pipe and ran them on my table saw. I cut out about a quarter circle lengthwise, making a long slot.
It just snaps over the awning, and the ends locked together.
I will try to find pics when I get home.

I put my motorhome in the garage after each use. 10 years and my awning is still in great condition.

I was going to say that I have a 30' X 40' cover that goes over mine.
