Roof screw holes repaired by Dicor???

Hello All,

I need please your advise. I'm a newbie and I'm looking to buy my first RV Kodiak 200QB 2015.

The dealer had only one model in stock and this model won't be available next year (MD)

Unfortunately, they installed this summer a Solar Panel one this RV instead of another.... So they removed the solar panel and they repaired the 4 holes on the roof with only Dicor.

As I mentioned, I'm not an expert but I thought that should repaired the hole with a fabric backed seal tape 4inch x 4inch on each hole and sealed the edge of the fabric with Dicor, instead of adding only Dicor directly in the hole...

I will probably adding a Solar Panel at the same place but not fixed on the roof at the same hole. So the existing hole must be 200% water proof.

So can you tell me if the way that the dealer repaired the hole is ok or I should ask to start over with a fabric tape?

The existing holes will be probably under my future solar panel, so I will secure my panel with a tilt mount kit in order the be able the check the hole by tilting my panel.

Here a picture of one of the hole.

Any comments will be greatly appreciated!!

Definitely cover the holes with Eternabond. Then, you know I will not leak.
I would ask he dealer to throw in a roll as part of the deal.

I agree, If it were mine I would take a single edge razor in a holder and cut off the dicor and seal it with Eternabond tape. That stuff is great! I noted that on my roof, the dicor was only two years old and started to crack and I had a leak and didn't know it until wife opened a rear closet. I jumped into action, climbed up on roof, scrapped away all the dicor I could, cleaned the area with Acetone and laid down Eternabond tape over the seem. Went into the closet, pull out any damaged and damp material and lined the closet in cedar. Wife happy as a lark!
  • The only issue I see is that you'll need to keep an eye on the dicor and reseal occasionally when doing the rest of the roof. I'd throw some Eternabond over the holes just to be safe, but it's not necessary if it doesn't bother you.
  • Lap seal repairs are typical and will work for small areas. It is something that should be checked periodically – so would a patch. To make it even more secure, you could use the Di-Seal patch tape over the lap seal repair - but this is not usually necessary.

    Hope this helps!

    Safe and Happy Travels!
    Dicor
  • Eternabond tape over it and forget about it. And use the holes as a bargaining chip. Might be able to shave couple hundred off the price...

    clean with mineral spirits,

I'm not sure it's good idea to clean with mineral spirits. As I recall petroleum products causes rubber RV roofs to deteriorate.

I'd just have them GIVE me an INSTALLED solar panel using those holes.
