Thats what I remember of Route 66. As a kid taking 66 from Ca. on our way to Michigan in the 50's. Stopping frequently at all the curio shops, roadside desert 'mueseums', little 2 pump gas stations. Whole different form of travel. Coarse took us a week to get to the Mississippi.
