RV Brand Quality

I have owned an RV for about three years, still a newbie. I know the overall quality issues and have seen both good and bad. I am just trying to balance cost vs quality. You get what you pay for. I certainly cannot afford a 100k travel trailer built with loving care.
I have a Sunset Trail and overall has been satisfied with the quality, but want to divorce myself from them. How can one find the overall quality of a company not only on what they build but in dealing with their owners? I put little faith in people who join forums just to complain. And I have seen somewhat of a balance between long time forum members over good and bad.

So if there are any sources it would be greatly appreciated. I have been looking at Forest River and trying to stay away from Thor. But I know that Forest River is owned by Buffet and they have had been fined recently. Thanks
  • Northwood's Arctic Fox TTs are very good, but even they have their quality control issues. We have only had our 2016 model for two weeks now and have discovered several items that need attention. Things that should have been caught and corrected at their manufacturing facility.
  • In the never ending search for the elusive "quality"....we have ordered an Arctic Fox. But, they are heavy and expensive, so there was no balance between quality and cost.

But, I have no illusions that there will still be lots of tweaking, maintaining and up keep.

It will be our 4th tow-able, all from different manufacturers.
    Good luck with your search.

It's hard to find unbiassed reviews or any true comparisons. Most people after buying a trailer will either love it or hate it due to whatever problems they have had. So, I think it is up to the shopper to look at and compare as many trailers as possible and evaluate quality differences versus price.

and it is only human nature for a person to not admit that he/she made a horrible mistake and bought a lemon.

  • rv consumer reports in web search brings up a lot of supposed unbiased reviews.

Since you are near in Illinois, you could certainly check out a lot of the RV factories in Indianna.

Based on our ownership of a 2014 Winnebago Minnie 2201DS, I think they are better than entry level with an appropriate price difference. But there are certainly other companies with better than average products such as Lance, Northwood/Arctic Fox, Airstream (considered upper end of quality by many) and Outdoor RV....and, I know there are other manufacturers that could be mentioned.

But as to any great sources of unbiassed information or quality evaluation, I haven't seen or found it!

    Good luck in your search.
  • For most manufacturers there are RV Clubs as well as forums. You may need to do a little research online to locate a club. To me that would be the best source to ask club members how they feel about the quality. Forums as you know aren't the best source but if you find a forum dedicated to a manufacturer and various models you may be able to determine good or bad by the posts on the forum.

Other than that I would trust your gut. I recently walked into a high priced toy hauler and as soon as I began looking into cabinets and closets and other areas where I could see the construction methods used...I was not impressed. Based on the construction I would have expected a much lower price.
