RV Sealant / Caulking

Can someone explain why RV sealant / caulking is seemingly inferior compared to standard commercial / residential exterior window caulking that generally lasts 20 YEARS with shrinking or cracking?

What is so good about Dicor when it cracks so easily?

    Interesting.

I've sealed fuel tanks and lap joints on commercial aircraft that have ALL SORTS of flex AND fly at 550 mph.

Happily, none of it with Dicor properties.

You ask a good and valid question. My cousin used Marine lap sealant on his a few years ago. His is holding up great while mine is seemingly in constant need of a touch up around the fixtures and end edges.
I too noticed our windows that we had installed in the house 15 years ago are still sporting the same caulking exposed to the same summer sun and heat as the RV minus the cracking and shrinking.
    Me thinks we're being duped.

That makes 2 of us...anyone else?

It's because everyone knows, RVers are filthy rich. They have plenty of money and are always looking for new ways to spend it.
I don't bother caulking my windows or anything else on the RV. I just buy a new Prevost every six months. Cash of course. :)

I can't answer your question. Yes, your house expands and contracts but so does the RV plus, it flexes and bounces going down the road.
That may add to the early failure of the Dicor. Or not.

    They have RVers brainwashed?

Dicor is fine. The two issues I see are, constant movement of an RV and poor prep work. If your house was moving as much as most RVs it would probably be a pile of rubble.

Sorry...hard to agree with that. I live up North where summers are stinking hot and winters are ice cold.

And you don't think window sealant moves?

    I dunno...not looking for an argument. :)
