RV Water Hose

Does anyone use just a plain garden hose for their fresh water hook-up? I've been back and forth depending on how far the spigot was. For example, if we're at a site that doesn't have water, I always try and reserve close to a spigot. I would then carry with me my hose reel on wheels, however, I heard that those are very bad. I did have a filter on my camper that we're trading in, but not sure on my new camper. Is it really as bad as people say (using a garden hose) or should I spend double and get a drinking water hose? I'm putting it on a hose reel and was planning to reel in 200' for those far off spigots (if needed). Thoughts?

  • I have a 15 gallon barrel and 6 gallon jug for hauling water. 200' of hose is nuts.
  • garden hose is recycled rubbers. white drinking hoses is a virgin rubber made for safe drinking
  • Yes, 200'. If we have to refill the Fresh Water tank, we may need that much. Usually in a long weekend, we would only need to refill once.
  • 200 ft of hose? We (two seniors) usually figure we can go four days max without refilling our FW tank or dumping the shower tank. Makes for short showers, of course.
  • No. The material used in regular garden hoses emit nasty substances not suitable for drinking. I would much rather drink my arsenic laced water from an approved hose than drink safe water from a non approved hose.

At one point in our RV life we would always carry 250' of hose. The others in our group usually carried about as much. There was more than one time when we would have close to a thousand feet stretched out and at that barely filled everyone.
