Safari Alto - Buying in Canada

I'm in the beginning stages of researching small travel trailers. We want one to use as a home base for backpacking trips, to use for site camping with friends, and to use as a spare room at my parents' rancherito for family gatherings (too many siblings, spouses, and children for their new house!) Must haves: electric brakes, enclosed head, queen bed, and lightweight (I'd be towing with a GMC Canyon for now so I want to keep it under 1,600 lbs. dry weight.)

I've fallen in love with the Safari Alto 1723, but it appears to only be sold in Canada. Although the website says you can buy it in the US through the manufacturer.

Does anyone have any experience buying or using one? Seen one at a campground or RV show and have opinions?

Does anyone know of any similar "ultralight" small TTs?

  • Sounds like you made a good deal and it seems they are a good company to deal with.
  • We signed the contract, with the understanding that we can cancel if we change our minds after I see it in a couple of weeks. Currently our delivery date is June 19th. The last I heard they were backed up into August. I'll take videos when I go and let you all know where to view them.

We have been looking at these for 4 years now. I'm flying up in a month to visit the factory. We are getting a 1723. I'm so excited!

I'm so happy they can be sold and licensed in the US. A sister of a friend of mine purchased one recently, and they all camped a couple of weekends ago!

  • I've always been a fan of the Alto and wish they could sell in the states.

I was in a Little Guy T@B with shower at a rally and was pleasantly surprised. As the owner of a T@B I always thought I wouldn't want the bathroom. I still don't, for myself, but was impressed by the bathroom model by Little Guy.
  • If you like the Alto you might like the new T@b shower model.

edit: Safari laminated aluminum construction, wonder how it holds up to dings or gravel off your tires.
  • Here is a dealer who sells them in Ontario Canada. They have been in business for 40 years and would know how to buy one from your location.

Your dollar vs the Can dollar is high right now. You would be getting a deal if you bought Canadian.
