Salesmen...sheesh

Anyone ever find a salesman that doesn't overstate what you can tow?

Yes. When I walked on the lot the salesman said 'Lets start off by telling me your tow vehicle and then we can see what you can safely tow with it'

We were all new to some game at some point in time. We either did the research or spent a lot of money on expensive lessons whether we are talking about houses or hobbies. I try to teach my children that every day they wake up that there are ten others who woke up with the idea of getting some of their money. There is not one salesperson in one thousand who will admit that they deliberately mislead or cheat their customers.

I know that it is popular and easy to bash salespeople but do we insist that the kid down at the burger joint be a certified nutritionist? At some point, it is up to the buyer to know whether the food will make him fat or if his tow vehicle is capable of towing a particular trailer.

The local family owned RV business is pretty good. He didn't ask about payload, but was very interested in towing capacity of my TV. I told him what I was willing to tow, which was 80% of my capacity. He was telling me that he had a guy decide to buy a 4500lbs trailer with a TV rated at 3000lbs, and that he did his best to convince the customer otherwise. The dealer actually has a liability waiver form stating that the dealer advised not to use a TV with a trailer that exceeds the capacity of the TV.

You guys can't be correct, most guys on these forums say "you no the salesperson is lying because they are talking". They don't seem to trust anyone.

My first rv salesman was also a retired load broker for a trucking firm so he understood what was safe/legal gvw/gcw load numbers for any vehicle.

My neighbor lady sells rvs par time at rv shows around the country. She has her own 4500 Ram with a custom haulers bed she uses in her LTL commercial work. Very knowledgeable lady and isn't bashful about telling hard heads what the vehicle can safely tow/carry.

I tried to help a buy with a 1/2 ton reset a Reese, chains and bumper dragging on the ground, but he wouldn't listen. He couldn't get it hooked so I just did it and he went away happy. He said Dealer, (won't name them here) said it was OK.
