Sat dish

Hello this is my first post on this forum so I apologize if this has been asked before. I did do a search and really did not see my question.
I have a 2015 Springdale travel trailer model 225RBWE. I would like to put a Satellite dish on the roof. The roof looks like it is some sort of rubber. I was thinking of putting it on the bearing wall between the couch area and the master bedroom. The dish I am looking at is one of those that auto tunes and weights about 70lbs. I was just wondering if there would be any issues that any of you can think of or if you can think of a different spot to put it. Thank you in advance for any advice
  • If you park under trees, it may not work without a clear view of the satellite.

  • OK,you have what is commonly called a rubber roof. If your installing a Winegard Travler automatic dish your biggest problem will be trying to find enough real estate for it. You need approx 9 SqFt for it to land.
  • I installed one about 5 years ago... It is the greatest thing since sliced bread.

I have a couple of sugeestions. If possible, mount it towards the rear, and run the cables down the ladder and into the underbelly, then come up from the floor wherever needed. I hate the idea of running the cables thru the roof.

And get the optional cable that will stow the dish automatically if you forget to. You will need a inverter to power it for this to work.

It is worth it... Trust me.
  • I would go with one of the portable auto dishes. Easier and more versatile. Slightly more hassle but gives you more opportunity to find the sats when parked in the trees.
  • I will try to change your mind and suggest getting an automatic portable such as the Carry out from Winegard.
Roof installations can have issues with where you camp. Trees, other rigs and obstructions can cause no signal.
A portable will allow you move the dish so you can get a signal.
  • We have both the roof mounted dome that we had added after taking possession of the RV and more recently a portable G2 dome with 50 feet of supplied cable. We have used both during the course of a season. If I had to choose one I would pick the G2 portable unit which can be moved around to get a clear view thru the trees when necessary.
You can temporarily set it on the roof if you will be in one place for awhile to minimize the chance of it walking away.
  • I too chose a "portable" so I could easily move it. I chose the dish tailgater ( it's the one that looks like darth vader ). If I have a unobstructed view of the southern sky from the roof of the camper, I set it up on the roof of the slide out room.
  • We have a roof mounted Winegard Trav'ler and love it. Many rigs today have a mounting location already on the roof, you might check that out.

I carried my portable dish for several years after installing the Trav'ler and never needed it, gave it away last winter.
