Scissor jack replacement

So unfortunately, I have a bent scissor jack on my 15 Springdale 270LE. I believe they're 2500lb rated. Question is, can I toss a 5000+ rated jack on there without issue or do I need to match it?
  • The 5,000 jack will work, but if it were me, I'd want them to all look the same.

  • No issues other than it might look different. I had lighter rated stock stabilizers on our rig and changed them out for a heavier rated, sturdier version which provided better support and improved functionality when using our power drill.
  • After the 2nd cheap stabilizer broke, I replaced all with heavier ones from BAL. The original bolt holes didn't line up, so I just drilled some new ones. I also repainted the frame and replaced the rusty Tek screws for the belly cover with stainless ones while I was down there. Every little job leads to a project...
  • I replaced 2 jacks on my previous trailer, and 1 jack on the trailer before that, all were BAL scissor jacks. I added 2 more on my previous trailer, so had a total of 6 jacks.

Apart from appearance, no reason why you cannot attach any kind of jack that works for your needs.

I have in the past used a mix of the BAL installed scissor jacks with these. One winter I had 10 jacks under the trailer, plus the tongue.

No right or wrong, use what you're most comfortable with.

  • When the dealer broke my cheapo single arm stabilizer jack, I replaced both rear jacks at the same time with 5000 pound scissor jacks. The forklift driver moving the trailer had it too high, and the jack hit an asphalt curb. Nothing else damaged. They offered to replace it with a like jack, but I told them not to worry about it. I had already purchased the scissor jacks to replace them. I couldn't believe how flimsy they were, and how easy they were to pull off. The first one I ground on the welds a bit. The second one I didn't bother and it snapped right off. Since the front jacks are helped by the tongue jack, I'm not going to worry about them.
