Secrets about travel trailer warranties

The things they dont tell you about your warranties.
1. The 25-30 year warranty provided on your roof will never be used. The warranty is on the product but if it were to crack or seperate they will claim you did not service it properly or that it was caused by moving the camper around. A service person at a large dealership told me she has never had a roof warranty accepted in 20 years of service.

2. Extended warranties are almost useless. Yes if your slide motor or fridge goes out your covered. How often does that happen? if it does it will in the 1st year normally. It does not cover water damage, any seperation like cabinets or panels it covers almost nothing that will actually break. The dealer also told me that extended warranties are basically a scam. Her words not mine.

3. You only receive a 1 year manufacterer warranty on travel trailers. You get 3 years on a car. Think about it. Why only 1 year you ask? Because it usually takes more than that for water damage to show enough for you to notice. At that point they are not responsible.

Unfortunately i learned this the hard way $4,000 in repairs due to water damage caused by a defective window. Now out of warranty. 2013 Coachman Catalina.
  • Yeah i post this as a warning and knowledge to those that have been or are looking into owning a camper. Camping is a wonderful thing and many have a deep passion for it including myself. However people should be aware of what they are getting themselves into. The good and the bad.
  • A few manufacturers warranty their trailers for 2 years (Open Range is mine) which helps. But, you're right, unfortunately many of us learned these secrets as you did!
  • I hear that. Had a slide motor warranty denied because the RV tech 'tried to repair it'.
