I could be wrong but I think the Toyota Tundra still uses a tapered bearing rear axle.
Something to think about though is that any newer truck will have disc brakes on the rear. If for some strange reason a rear axle breaks at the C-clip the axle will not fall out as the disc brake will keep it more or less in place.
A full floating axle is definitely stronger but I've seen quite a few failed rear wheel bearings on them causing the wheel to nearly fall off too.
