I would expect that if at speed, and you have a c clip or axle failure, the disc brake assembly would explode and not retain the wheel and axle.
I have also heard that some manufacturers are going back to rear drum. Can't believe that my sons 2011 Toyota has rear drum and my 05 Kia has rear disk.
I am not sure what it would take to cause the c clip to fail. But a great many racing series Classes require that a c clip be retrofitted to a system that will prevent the axle from breaking lose.
C clips do fail. A leak that starts half way through a fuel run and goes un notice at a fuel stop can cause a lot of wear in that apx 6 to 7 hundred freeway miles. If the bearing is okay you won't experience any problem until the c clip actually fails.
Kaiser Pass, this is one of the reasons I don't want a c clip.
