The thing is, we are taking within 5km/hr difference. I would rather go 5km/hr slower and save fuel.
Why would you think you would be saving fuel in 6th? You won't be. The engine will be working harder to maintain the speed, and "lugging" meaning it will not be using all the fuel being fed to it. Not good for the engine, or trany. Want to see if you are saving fuel? put the display on instant MPG. Watch to see where the line indicator goes. I bet it drops below the average line. Mine does. hint. it is right above the trailer connected page. arrow up one.
I also have a 2013 5.0, 3.73 F150. It don't like to tow in 6th. It luggs it. so I lock it out, and let it run in 5th. it will turn up 2500 or so at 65MPH. It loves it. Running in the power band, running clean, and free, using all the fuel being fed it, and getrting better MPG with better acceleration, and engine braking. Plus it sounds GREAT. there are no downs to locking out 6th.
I also lock out all the higher gears I want when coming down the mountain. I usually lock out everything above 3rd, and sometimes 2nd. Saves my brakes.
BTW. On the highway at normal speed. Your truck does not care about how much the TT weighs. It only cares about the great big wall it has to pull thru the air. And that wall is the same if the TT weighs 7000lb, or 4000lb
