Schwintek slide jammed - shifted back

My living room slide won't go out. I used to be able to give it a shove to start it moving, but that doesn't work anymore.

Both motors are working (I can hear them both) but the rear part of the slide doesn't move (front does).

Given that it's in means that I can't get at the motor and drive system. I was going to unscrew the vertical piece that holds the motor, etc. but the screws are covered by the outer trim. There is plenty of space to get at the front screws. Looks like the slide has shifted back by about half an inch. I think this is the reason why the rear of the slide doesn't move.

I think I have to push the slide forward and then it will probably work. If not, at least I'll have access to the screws to remove the mechanism.

My question is this: if I manage to get a pry bar between the wall and the slide, will that be sufficient to move the slide? Do I have to jack up the slide to get it off the rollers at the bottom? I think I can get the furniture out of the slide (living room) to lighten the load.

Any other suggestions?

  • I use the override on the bedroom slide. There's a broken wire in the cable somewhere - I have a new cable but the LR slide is the priority at the moment. I suppose I could try unlocking the motors and pushing in spite of the fact that I can hear the motor whirrrring for a second when I try to extend the slide.

I don't see anything in the manual about electronically unlocking the motors - just how to physically disconnect the motors from the drive shaft.

  • Download manual from Schwintek for the slide. There are two things in the manual that can help you out.

    1. There is an overide procedure you can use which may help to get the slide moving again.
    2. There is a process that describes how to unlock the motors so you can push the slide out.

If it were me, I would not try pushing to hard on that slide without checking out the "how to" in the manual first. Also, if I recall correctly, there are error codes on the controller that may be of help.

I have a copy of the manual and remember seeing these in the manual but my copy of the manual is in the trailer, in storage, and not readily available; or I would give you further details. But such as it is, this is the best I can do for you.

  • When I said "move the slide" in my original post, I meant move it forward, not move it out (but that would be good too :)
