oh noes, every single six speed transmission is garbage since they all sport 2 overdrive gears.... then there are the 8 speed and new 10 speed transmissions!
Also of note, you most likely never will see a compressor wheel make it through the intercooler. However, you may see the turbine wheel out the rear.... if the car had a melted/gutted cat (or no catalytic converter) in the exhaust stream. Fleet of 600 buses, about 400 of em with modern emissions, zero turbine parts making it out past the exhaust, but have seen them in front of the DPF or SCR systems. Hell, seen shattered pistons in the Cummins ISL, but then we put our vehicles through hell.
So, uhm.... Do I have a problem or should I keep it in 6th, or avoid that like the plague?
In all seriousness, you're fine to run it in 5th gear. In your case, both 5th and 6th are overdrive gears. In the case of your tow vehicle, it makes power revving and will run more efficient at a higher RPM when needing to use more horsepower to continue cruising down the road. Heck, driving the passes here on the west coast, I use to keep my 2010 F-150 (with the 5.4) in higher revs. You're not hurting anything and you're actually saving your transmission by getting rid of unneeded shifts.
