Shopping. 2019 Forest River Puma 20RDC $?$!

Made my list of wants for my couples retirement TT, this Puma is a fit to my wants/needs.
Lite
U shape dinette
Seating and bed opposite ends of TT
Central a/c
Under 24 foot
Tandem axel
Used- no luck FINDING USED. I have been dealer hopping to get info, ideas, pricing and help my learning curve. This will be my 3 rd TT
I despise salesmen, but their is no other way to get info and their pricing. Unfortunate much of the info is a lie!
Yes your truck will pull this easy
This is our best out the door price. Aleast until you walk out the door or shop dealer next door and their price is $3000 cheaper!!
So local dealer is at $17,800 plus dealer fee plus plus. Before tax $ $19,300
Dealer an hour away is at $15,000 plus plus. I truly like this floor plan and TT, but don’t need it for another 6 to 9 months. So not in any hurry. Looking for advise:
Anyone have thoughts about this puma TT?
How do I know what the lowest a dealer will sell for?
Thanks

  • We also knew the floor plan we wanted when we started looking for a replacement to our falling apart camper. I also knew all the weights.
A few hours on the net and I had found several that fit the bill. I wasn’t concerned with the manufacturer at all. Then I started with all the dealers within a day’s drive along with Craigslist.
Within 2 weeks of us deciding how much to spend and what we wanted, we found the Dart. It was used, but for only 5 months. Owner had traded for a larger Jayco.
After an hour or so on the net, I had a good idea of what that model was going for. We made an out the door deal along with trading in the old camper. While setting up the WD to leave, I met the previous owner, who was having his walkthrough. He was very impressed with the deal we made.
You should have no problem finding what you want since you have a few months.
  • Like wandering stated, look at rvtrader and rvt, both of which will give you dealers that WILL give you an OTD price. If you are in FL, some of these are within a one day drive (MO and SC). Get a price agreed upon by you both using email, arrange to go pick it up and do a PDI, stay locally for a day or two to make sure there are going to be no problems and head back home or on vacation. If you need service, you can get a certified RV tech to handle the service or you can take it to your local dealer, but will probably get better service from the RV tech. If it'll save you over 2K, it's worth the one-day drive, at least to me it is.

We bought from this dealer and the price they list is the price they sell it for.

Here are two RVs that are the same floorplan, but not a PUMA. Also, if/when you go for your PDI, they do have several spots on their lot where you can spend the night to check everything out following your PDI. I dealt with salesman, Pete Klei.

  • Thanks for the info. Fun I always ask for OTD price and neither would commit to a bottom line, funny thinking about it now. I’ll search for other manufactures with this floor plan. Thanks
  • Floorplans are similar across the brands and available within the same manufacturer across several different price points usually.
Once you have setteled on a floor plan look at several brands as well as across several build levels.
If you have decided on a specific model, then start with the dealer search.
    Use
    www.rvtrader.com
    and
    www.rvt.com

Both have links on the sites to take you to the dealers website.
use the advanced search function and narrow the fields to exactly the brand, make and model you have decided on.
The trailer is mobile, it has wheels, so dont believe you have to buy it in your town, local dealers are often poor for service and if you are on a trip during a failure, chances are you wont be near them anyway.
Also many dealers will add on thousands in fees even on an inexpensive trailer. Examples would be,,,
    Delivery $750 - $1500
    Dealer prep $450 - $750
    PDI or walkthrough of $350
    Processing fee of $399

There are dealers that price their units straight up, no fees.
Its possible the pricing you are being offered is a great deal, but its also possible that you may be getting a lousy deal.

Use the web, search for the exact models that interest you from other dealers, the ones that price their product "out the door" usually say so on their web pages, get some comparasion prices and go from there.

    Good luck.
