Shore Power Connection Testing

If it were me I would get it all back to a standard RV connection - somewhere something is going to happen and burn up all of your 120VAC items inside the trailer or hurt your dog or worse yet your kid...

Your RV trailer gets its only frame ground through the standard RV 120VAC connections with shore power... Without proper grounds when connected to shore power connections could be a shocking experience for you

Nothing should be hokie pokie or things happens out of your control...

I am probably jumping the gun here with my safety hat comments - things may be ok once all of this identified properly... You have to be extra cautious working around electrical connections or something or somebody gets hurt because someone thinks they can do a big red neck engineered short cut here and there to save a few dollars. If it wasn't for folks being safety conscious all of our 120VAC receptacles might look like this. Can you believe you can order one of these today...

Take a photo of the other end so we can see what it is.

Someone may have made this cable up or if the ends are molded and the other end matches this one you can't use it in its present form. There is a way to get around it but you will have to do some surgery on the cable.

You've got a three phase receptacle in your picture. If that fits the RV, it's not standard but will work. However, if the plug end of the cord has the same configuration, you won't be able to connect in a campground. My guess is the two angled contacts would be 120 ac (one hot and the other neutral). The horizontal one is probably safety ground.

I just now noticed you said it is a 120VAC 15/20AMP service (I think)

use this photo to identify the three plugs on the 120VAC 15/20AMP receptacle connection. You can see where the BLACK -WHITE-GREEN wires come from.


Then use this photo to tell you what the other end should be.


Then use the chart to tell you where to measure your 120VAC voltages.

Its kinda hard to tell what you have from your picture...

Most modern day 30AMP travel trailers will have a 30A Shore Power Cable that will will screw lock in the side of the trailer like this..


The other end of this 30AMP Shore Power Cable that plugs into a standard camp ground pedestal will look like this.


This doesn't really look like what you are showing...

I did find this photo on-line showing which color wires are connected to the trailer side NON screw lock connection. Maybe this will help


Not much help for you I bet... We need more picture I think... or maybe brand and year of TT trailer...

We need a picture of the other end of your cable that plugs into the shore power connection. I'm starting to think you may have only a very old trailer with only 120VAC 20AMP service. The other end of the cable will tell that story for us...

And there is the problem I am having. This is the cord that goes from my trailer to a 110 outlet. I have male connector on my trailer that this fits to. I haven't been able to find anything for it online either. I'm trying to figure out how to test it but all I can find is the 30a and 50a cords pictured above.

Look closely at the images posted by RoyB. The connector you have on the cord you show does not match the 3 pin connector in Roy's images, AS IT SHOULD. I'm thinking the cord/connector you have (without researching it) may be a 240 volt cable for an electric dryer. The correct connector will have 1 round pin and 2 flat ones in the V configuration. Don't use a power source of 240v for your 120v trailer, you'll burn up things in the trailer. This is just a quick word of caution and hopefully others have more info at the ready to help you.

Here is a couple of charts that show where to measure voltages on the RV50A and the RV30A receptacles

is this a extra cord or is it the pull out shore power cord

Always start at the source., your fuse box and work outward. If you are adapting from a 15/20 amp line to a 30 amp cord, it could be a GFI that has tripped.
