Good point about it being a matter of timing. You are correct, my current truck is not going to make it until the kids move out, so why not get what makes us safe and comfortable now so that it is enjoyed. I've bought many a thing that would have been handy sooner and then kick myself.
The tranny cooler is a good idea too. There is a small cooler in front of my radiator already. I'm not sure if it is tranny or engine oil? Pretty sure tranny.
Terryallan, we probably drive all the same "local" roads. I've done Saluda grade dozens of times and it isn't so bad. Second gear at 40-45mph. I'm thinking I'm around 3400rpm. I have avoided Black Mountain. Never gone up it. We did just go up 220 out of Marion, as far as the parkway. It gets fairly steep up close to the Pkwy. The trailer in front of me slowed down enough to take me out of my powerband, and I had to climb the final few miles in first gear at about 25mph. Didn't have the power to break into second gear once slowed down.
