- rbpruExplorer IIWe often camp and go with one nighters getting to our destination. We don't unhitch, drop the bars or mess with the stabilizers.
I do disconnect the 7 pin plug to isolate the TV battery. There is supposed to be a relay that does this automatically, so I suppose it is just a bit of old school thinking. - drsteveExplorerWon't hurt a thing, as long as you're sure you won't need the TV to go anywhere.
- ktmrfsExplorer IIas long as I'm level enough I don't disconnect. I've not seen any valid argument on why you must disconnect. And at times if I'm slightly nose down connected I just run the tongue jack up enough to level.
And I disconnect the trailer wiring connector (7 pin). In some vehicles turning off the TV does NOT disconnect power to the trailer. Last thing you want in the morning is to have a dead trailer battery and dead TV battery(s)!!!
We have 4 GC2's so there is no way we would run down that battery bank overnight, but those with only one 12V, it's a possibility. - ScottGNomadDon't have to but I always do - just to take the tension off everything. It takes 30 seconds?
Just makes me feel better. - LwiddisExplorer III don’t. Never have.
- HuntindogExplorerIt depends.
If you are tounge high, then disconnecting them will drop the tounge some.
If it is low, then leave them connected and just use your jack to raise it up.... Unless it is so low that you would be raising the rear of the TV a lot. In that case, you should disconnect them, as well as the ball.
On edit: I keep a mental note of sites where I am level without having to do anything to the hitch... Have even gone so far as to mark where the tires are, so I can repeat it easily on a future trip. We always boondock in remote locations, so a level spot is like gold to us. - dodge_guyExplorer IIUnnecessary.
- CFergusonExplorerI don't.
- samsontdogExplorerI never have in many yrs of towing
- BarneySExplorer IIINot necessary! :)
