Should this air-filter should have been replaced sooner?

You`ve had it for 2 years. it could have happened a year after you bough it! doubt it though since it only had 6500 miles on it at 2 1/2 years old. anything can happen at any time.

I just bought an 05 car from a dealer, and I've been under the hood for several days now , changing fluids, coolants,filters,etc.,etc. My wife is wondering what the heck am I doing. She figures since it came from a dealer, everything is golden. I explained to her I'll have to check everything for myself , because dealers just flip them as fast, and as cheap as they can without a thorough check.

I change mine every 20,000 miles and clean it 3-4 times a year - always looking to see what is in the filter box.

glad you checked the air filter and got it replaced.

we bought a used 2008 Toyota van from the dealer, 50K miles, had been used as a rental vehicle,
yes, I know people do not always take proper care of them as they normally say, " drive it like you stole it"

but its has proven to be a good vehicle and the dealer said they get great service.

who knows,

issue: a few months after purchase I find that it has a in cabin air filter, never had a vehicle before with this filter.

so I bought a replacement filter and my son pulled the old one out.

it looked like the hair on the back of a wooly dog.
did not let mama bear see the filter, just replaced it and when on.

that was one filter that did not get changed on their grant master maintenance program.

do not think my 2005 dodge diesel TV has this in cabin filter.

but, if you have one, need to at least check it from time to time as you are breathing the air that goes through it.

Thanks for the reminder. Changed oil in the wife's truck today. I decided to check the air filter after remembering this thread.

Wouldn't ya know it, had a mouse nest in there to. Not nearly as bad as yours though. I checked her filter every other oil change for the first 100k. Never never was dirty. Changed it at 100k just cuz, and maybe looked at it twice since then. Has 160k on it now. Guess I shouldn't be so lazy....

In a previous thread folks said to just depend on the gauge to tell you when to change. Now you messed up and have to buy a filter.

put that back in the clothes dryer!

Looks like a K&N just wash and re-oil it

Should be good for another few thousand miles.

I've seen generator engines with air filters like that, that have cut off whenever there was a 50% load. They guy thought that he needed to have the engine overhauled.....swapping out the A/F was all that it needed!

At least you caught it now, and not on the side of some lonely road!
