To add to this, a diesel has no throttle plate so it gets a full gulp of air each stroke. This would be way more air and dirt than what a gas engine is exposed to.

I took the K&n off my 7.3 because they will let fine pcs past and
this is not good for the turbo, like sand paper to wood.

Put a K&N in my V10 Excursion....through it away in less then a year. Look on ebay for your filter and buy a few.

If the K&N filters filter more dirt, then how do they last longer? If a filter is indeed filtering better, it then would get dirty faster.

The used Dodge Cummins I bought had a K&N filter installed. When I pulled it to clean it I discovered that deep in the pleats was dirt and crud that I couldn't safely remove. It would have destroyed the filter. I put in a Wix and that is what I now use. I use K&N filters in all my bikes and like them very much.

However I feel that using a K&N in a large diesel is not a good idea, unless you clean them thoroughly and frequently. Also you have to be careful not to over oil the pleats as that can cause some problems with the MAP/F sensor on some trucks. I think if you use one you would need to clean it thoroughly every 5,000 miles or so. JMO of course.

I had a E-450 and took the K&N out. When I went to clean it, the rubber gasket at the base fell off and was just a pain (couldn't find a replacement) and I didn't like spraying the oil (it was a mess). I just put back on the OEM as it is nearly the same shape and fit for a decent cost from the parts store.

I have a Banks Ram Air that I removed from my 08 F450 6.4, trading in the truck, unless you are adding more power stick with stock they do not flow much more than stock. If interested send me a pm got a Banks 6 gun with IQ also.

I wouldn't do it. The OEM flows just fine, and filters the air better than the K&N.
