Siding question?

Hello all. New to the forum and first time TT owner. We just purchased a 1997 Terry 24M camper and it has some issues. I have found some rot on the outside and want to repair it but it is not corrugated siding. It has a rubberized siding on it.

My question is how is this siding attached i.e. glued I am assuming? Does anyone have any experience with this type of siding.

Thanks in advance.
  • Well we would like to keep it for awhile and get some good use out of it.

Thanks for the explanation on the fix sounds like a time consuming job. Might just look at putting aluminum siding on it.
  • Typical Filon repair is to insert a thinned epoxy between the Luan substrate and the back of the Filon. The Filon siding is then braced/clamped until set. Working alongside a garage where braces can be wedged against the repair surface and the wall of the garage is a good way of pushing the siding back onto the wall when gluing.
  • How long do you plan on keeping it?
With the leaks fixed id be tempted to use as is. To fix properly you be in it way more then its worth.
  • The leaks have been stopped. I can replace the Luan but how do you go about regluing the siding.

Would I be better off going back with corrugated siding?
  • I'm sorry to say, you have the dreaded delamination.
Water has gotten in and attacked the glue and luan paneling behind it.
First thing to do is fix the leak. The delam itself is very involved to repair.
  • Please resize your pics. They are too big to tell what's going on.

  • I know I have some rot to repair that is really not my concern. Reapplying the siding is what I am not sure about

    Thanks for the replies.
  • You have fiberglass siding. Is it delaminating? Bubbling up?

    Can you post a picture?
  • My guess he is referring to Frilon. If you have delamination, you have serious problems. Frilon is pressure glued to a substraight, usually plywood, which is then bonded to the frame. What has probably happened is water got in, causing delamination between the plywood and frilon. There is no cheap easy fix. Wood rot, and serious mold are only your first problems. You will need serious skills to attempt a fix. Hope you did not spend much for this trailer.
  • Welcome to the Forum.

"Rubberized siding,".....not sure what you mean. Most have either corrugated aluminum or some form of fiber-glass/filon.
