Skylight crack fix?

I had a crack on the sky light over the shower and I drilled a small hole at the top of the crack, covered the crack with silicone then covered that with a piece of Eternabond tape. Been over a year and so far so good. :)

I had a small crack in mine. I covered it with a maxx vent cover, so the crack no longer matters.

It really isn't that difficult to just replace the skylight, and done right will be leak free.

Two ways to patch it so it doesn't turn into a leak:

The temporary way: Drill holes, put Eternabond tape over it.

The real way: Pay the $100-200 and replace the dome. If the temporary fix doesn't hold, you will be out tens of thousands, so might as well do it right.

I also have cracks. I have repaired cracks successfully with Pro-flex RV caulk. Eventually I will replace the dome; that is the right thing. But I keep putting it off.

The plastic they make the domes out of is not sun-safe (bizarre - if anything gets lots of sun exposure a roof dome is right at the top) and they get very brittle. The first crack I got by pressing too hard. I patched it and later got another the same way. As it got weaker I also patched craze marks that looked like they could develop into cracks. Still no leaks (I check the ceiling near it regularly.)

Maybe next year is the year I'll do the right thing and replace it.

I would get another dome.
