I used to sleep in under the shell in the back of my truck all the time. I had a Ford Ranger with a 7ft bed and a color matching fiberglass snug top. The back window of the truck was a slider so you could pass through stuff to the cab. There was a full carpet kit in the back which worked really well, storage pods down the sides and enough room for 1 person to lay down in the middle. The middle sections could be lifted level with the storage pods so 2 people could sleep but then there was little headroom. I would take a small stove, camp chair, sleeping bag, cooler, and whatever else with me. At night, the gear went in the front seats and I went in the back. Did this for several years.
