When we first got married that's all we had to camp in. I built two cabinets a little higher than the fenderwell along each side of the pickup bed. These were used for storage of camping gear. I setup with a one inch piece of plywood that we would slide over the opening between the two cabinets. This made up a sleeping platform and we used a large air mattress plus sleeping bags.
Ice chest, coleman stove and lantern plus cooking and eating gear and we were set to go wherever we wanted.
We did this for a couple of years until we bought an old chassis mounted camper from my dad.
