Camper shells work well and I have used mine several times.
BIG ISSUE with idling or driving with someone in a camper shell. Carbon monoxide can kill at low concentrations that can easily build up in a camper shell (or TC). In 32 years of Fire/EMS I am aware of two cases where kids riding in a camper shell for a trip and have died before they arrived. One was Grandparents taking grandkids camping and they rode in the camper shell on the mattresses. Like all the dust that gets sucked into your camper, there is a vacuum that will also pull CO into the shell from the exhaust.
Also be very careful with any propane cooking or heating in a confined space. The recent post on using heater exhaust to warm the holding tanks shows that we all need to be more aware of the dangers of carbon monoxide. Click for Info on CO
The CO detectors in our RV's do save lives. Keep them serviced and replaced as needed.
