Unfortunately I've had to do a bit of work in this area lately on both mine and a friends new Arctic Fox.
I think your idea sounds good and if the Rock-Hard holds up then your good to go.
However, if it starts crumbling out then you might try installing a long narrow section of either thin aluminum or as I used on mine, 16 gauge stainless steel (because I used steel rollers), for the rollers to glide one.
