Slide Floor Replacement - How to protect bottom exposed side

I may be looking at slide floor replacement due to water damage. The typical water gets to the bottom of the slide, there is no drip edge so it turn the corner onto the underbelly and wicks across the bottom of the slide floor. What can I use to protect the new floor besides the typical black fabric darco. Seems like you cannot find the darco in the 12 mil thickness that they use on the slide floors. My understanding is the flex mend you can get at the mobile home centers in much thinner. Not really a fan of the darco anyway. I have considered FRP, epoxy, or varnish but need to know what others have used in this case. Thanks.

  • I have been reading positive reviews of Herculiner, a do it yourself bedliner product. Seems to adhere well, is abrasion resistant, and can be touched up. Thoughts?
  • When I rebuilt mine I used a piece of hard plastic used for shower stalls I got from Home-depot. My local rv repair shop uses the same. I attached it with glue and countersunk screws.
  • I have removed the dinette booths and couch as well as the carpet from the slideout out. The slide floor definitely has to be replaced. The slide is 23/32 OSB so atleast that thickness material is readily available at home depot. I plan on replacing with 23/32 plywood. Looks like a I have few pieces of sill plate to replace in the slide as well. The water is coming in at the bottom of the slide because of the poor way it was designed originally. The side wall sheathing on the outside does not go all the way to the bottom of the slide. Io cannot imagine how this would not happen the way it is built. Looks like a buddy and I will tackle replacing the floor next weekend (3/22) pending the weather. I have read thru Jbarca's thread on his floor replacement and watched several Youtube videos as well. This does not seem like rocket science, just labor intensive. Still looking for the best way to seal the bottom of the new floor once installed.
  • Okay, so the question remains, How do I fix mine without the darco? I think I have a handle on how to deal with the sides at the bottom, which is what created the problem to begin with. Just need an alternative to darco to protect the bottom of the floor with. My current darco is abraded around the perimeter so reusing it is not a good option.

If you have a new Voltage toy hauler, according to the manufacturer, you paint the exposed wood black, and tell the purchaser the bottom doesn't get wet.

    ahahaha. thats awesome.
The salesman told me that it was a special wood they put under it.
I said no, its not, its osb with a 1/4 layer of another wood with black paint. The osb piece that was UNDER the black piece wood was soaked.

My wife even mentioned that didnt look good.

Thin hard plastic, sealed. Thats what my 5th wheel has.
Or, treat the bottom of the wood with NeverWet.
