Slide Out leaks

I was told by a fellow RVer that Travel Trailers have a general problem of slide outs leaking and getting stuck in the out position. In my 15 yrs owning a DP I only had one incident where my bedroom slide was stuck in the out position. Can you experienced owners comment on this? Thx
  • the last 2 trailers I've owned had Slide outs, Never had a problem.
  • My Schwintek slide has been going in and out for nine seasons. It has never been stuck.
  • My camper has the electric Lippert rack and pinion slide system. a flush floor slide setup. Couch and table and chairs slide. What used to be called a Super slide back 14 years ago...

The camper is 14 years old and has never leaked from the roof or seals area or got stuck out. And I have no slide topper on it.

I did have slide floor rot but that was a slide floor design issue.

You never stated what type of slide the stuck and leaking slide was. Not all slides and slide mechanisms to pull them in and out are the same.

We need more specifics than a broad brush all slides are bad when folks talk in general about failure issues.

    Hope this helps

  • I ditto what John said above except I do have a slide topper and have not had any floor rot.

  • Neither the slides in out last TT nor this one have ever leaked and I don't believe it's a normal problem.
Your friend doesn't know what he's talking about.
  • If slides are so bad, why do almost all TT buyers buy them. They work and they seal. That said, they are mechanical devises and the can fail and leak.

Given that increase in the number on slides per TT at the last RV show, I don't think they are going away any time soon.
  • My brand new 2018 Cougar had a leak in the wardrobe slide. I took 6 trips to the service department to finally get it fixed.

    x2

there is more that can go wrong with slides but owner inspection and maintenance is important. no problems with our living room slide so far after a year.

the extra space is the deciding factor for us. i wouldn't own a tt without at least 1 living room slide. we prefer to spend most of our camping time outside the TT, but we glamp winter, spring, summer and fall. there are times here in north carolina when its hot as heck, cold as heck, or raining. nice to have the extra room to spread out and relax in the comforts of a TT
  • If I chose a trailer with a slide, it wouldn't be a real expensive one. Just sayin'. :)
